Since I was a child (7-8 years old), my favourite stories were those written by Oscar Wilde.They were not exactly what children generally greatly enjoy (most of them being sad) but I was fascinated by its style, by the language and by the unexpected twist of their plots (Selfish Giant, Star Child, Happy Prince, The Nightingale and the Rose, just to mention a few of them).Later, my father gave me as a birthday present The Complete Works of Oscar Wilde.The more I read the more I became obsessed so far that when finishing my university studies on my graduation I chose to write my diploma paper on the aestheticism of Oscar Wilde.What I demonstrated was Wilde’s wild idea that it is not art that imitates life but on the contrary,it is life that imitates art.My professors agreed that my paper was most original and I was rewarded with the highest qualifications.
Till today, one of my favourites are The Picture of Dorian Gray .The Canterville Ghost and of course The Importance of Being Ernest.
And something more.Whenever I have the possibility, I am wearing a sunflower just the way Oscar Wilde used to.
When it is said that an artist was ahead of his time, that is exactly what it means Antonia, It often takes the rest of us some time to catch up, and to think what was done to him before he was finally appreciated!
Love exchange between Antonia and Touran…and once again thank you T for The Wit of Oscar Wilde. So good to hear from you again Antonia and you have so much to add. What a full and wonder filled childhood you had. Would enjoy reading your paper on Wilde and admire your accomplishments. The sunflower is a story in itself and will write about The Butterfly and The Sunflower someday. The sunflower represents my husband in a most spiritual way and when I see one or someone like you mentions it, I feel his energy and direction.
